Electric Scooter Laws

Currently, in the United Kingdom, the use of electric scooters on roads and pavements is not legal. You can, however, enjoy riding an electric scooter on private land but you must get permission from the owner of the land before you do so for obvious reasons.

Electric scooters are incredibly fun but let’s not forget just how convenient they are, hence why there is so much talk in parliament right now to have electric scooters legalised.

In busy cities commuting can be a real nightmare, not only has it been proven to cause stress and anxiety there are also a number of unnecessary accidents being caused because of the congestion. Electric scooters are going to play a huge part in eliminating issues mentioned.

So, as you read this there is someone currently pushing the legalisation of electric scooters… watch this space!

Electric Scooter Insurance

Right now, an electric scooter in the UK does not require insurance. Due to their classification as Personal Light Electric Vehicles, they cannot be ridden in public, therefore insurance is not necessary.

In the future, we imagine that you will be able to take out some sort of public liability insurance, personal accident cover and loss or theft. For now, though, we just need to wait and see what the future brings as we move closer to electric scooters becoming road legal across the UK.

Why Are Electric Scooter Illegal?

That is a very good question! We have researched why electric scooters are still illegal in great depth and it actually comes down to an old law from the 1835 highways act that prohibits anyone from riding a “carriage” on the pavement. Like with all laws in the UK getting them changed takes time … sometimes a lot of time! Please do not fear though as its looking good for 2021, it won’t be long before electric scooters become a popular mode of transport.

How To Secure An Electric Scooter?

The idea of our electric scooters is to make our customers lives simpler, more convenient! We know that when you go to the shops, or nip to your friend’s house that you want to be able to leave your valuable electric scooter outside without having to worry about a pesky thief taking your precious electric scooter. This is why we have an amazing product to secure your scooter to any solid structure. You can find our safe and secure electric scooter locks on the accessories page of our website.

Can Electric Scooters Get Wet?

We have completed rigorous testing of our electric scooters and getting the scooters wet was one of them. We have ridden our electric scooters through the snow, ice, wind, and rain… torrential rain which let’s be honest this time of year is not uncommon! We have been blown away by our scooters and the elements they can take. Would I throw the electric scooter in the pool or try and ride in the sea? No. Of course not! But in short, yes, our electric scooters can indeed get wet but be sensible and use your common sense. It is ELECTRIC after all!
